  • Save Money Tip 5

  • Buy used. Sure, we all like to buy new. But there are huge money savings to be made in buying used. Most of the value in any new product is lost the moment it is purchased. The only things likely to hold their value or increase in value are investments like gold or stocks, real property and shares but even this isn't guaranteed! (as many people have found out ot their cost).

  • Typically, for example, cars and motor-cycles lose one-third of their value in the first 24 months from new. Why not buy a car 24 months old that has been little used and well looked after and make the saving yourself? You might also be able to find a good used car that is just months old and make a significant saving because you bought a used car rather tha a new car.

  • Other items such as clothes and shoes and fashion jewellery can be worth even less just the day after new. Look for ways to buy "as good as new" with these items and save money. Fortunately, there seems to be a big fashion swing towards retro and vintage clothing, so you can even look right up-to-date wearing used clothing! Check your own cupboards for clothes you haven't worn for a while. And what about unwanted clothes and shoes from parents and elderly relatives? You could be gold-mining when you recycle these previously unwanted old clothes and shoes.

  • There is also the positive environmental impact associated with buying used rather than new. You will be doing your bit towards preserving the earth's natural resources everytime you buy used rather than new, AND you save money - a win win situation. Recycling clothes and shoes can be very satisfying, as well as fashionable, and "green" and can save huge amounts of money over time.

  • Typical products you might consider buying used to save money include: cars, motorbikes, clothes, shoes, electrical goods, garden items... tools and sheds, household items... pots and pans, plates, utensils, the list of used goods where you can save money is endless. There are countless resources to support your hunt for used goods to save money..... classified ads, internet auction sites, shop window small ads and even word of mouth. Remember, the little ways to save money all add up, and can make a big difference to your personal wealth over time. You might also consider that some items like used antique furniture can appreciate over time and actually be worth MORE money than you spent! How cool would that be? Think used to save money!
